This product is intended for indoor domestic use only and not designed for commercial, trade or outdoor use. Electrical Safety and Cord Handling IMPORTANT: Never pull by the cord. To disconnect from the power supply, remove the plug from the power outlet. 1. Before turning on the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner, ensure the electrical voltage and frequency of the circuit corresponds to those indicated on the rating label of the product. 2. To protect against fire and electric shock, do not immerse the product, cord set or plug in water or any other liquids. 3. Do not pull or carry by the cord, use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord, or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. 4. Keep cord away from heated surfaces. 5. Do not bend or damage the power cord. 6. Never force the plug into an outlet, or out of an outlet. 7. Always unplug the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner when not in use. The plug must be removed from the power outlet before cleaning, servicing, maintaining or moving the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner. 8. If the supply cord is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer, it's service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. 12. Do not use an extension cord unless completely necessary with the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner. Do not use the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner without a dust bag and filters in place. 2. Before you commence using the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner, please remove any large or sharp objects from the floor in order to prevent the Dust Bag being damaged. 3. Do not put any objects into the air ventilation of the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner or operate when the air ventilations are blocked. Keep the air ventilation free of anything that may reduce the airflow. 4. Do not operate the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner near heaters, radiators, cigarette butts etc. 5. Do not pick up materials such as plaster dust, wood shavings or other building materials. 6. Do not use to pick up flammable, combustible or toxic materials such as petrol, chlorine, gasoline or use where they may be present. 7. Do not attempt to remove blockages with sharp objects as this may cause damage to the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner. 8. Only use the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner on dry, indoor surfaces. 9. Use extra care when using the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner on stairs. 10. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of body away from the openings or moving parts. 11. To reduce the risk of electrocution, never operate this product with wet hands, submerge in water or spill liquids into the product. 12. Only use attachments and/or replacement parts recommended by the manufacturer. 13. Do not use the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner on any glowing, burning or smoking particles. 14. Please ensure you follow the steps below before using this appliance. We recommend you keep the original packaging for storing your Backpack Vacuum Cleaner when not in use. 1. Unpack the product but keep all packaging material until you have made sure your new Backpack Vacuum Cleaner is undamaged and in good working order. Plastic wrapping can be a suffocation hazard for babies and young children, so ensure all packaging materials are out of their reach. 2. Uncoil the cord and straighten it to remove any kinks. Do not use this product if these parts are damaged. In case of damage, phone the After Sales Support line. Assembly WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, the power cord must be disconnected form power outlet before removing the Flexible Hose (6), Dust Bag (20), Shake-Out Bag (17), changing the filters or performing maintenance or troubleshooting procedures. Attaching the Flexible Hose to the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner and Using the Attachments The Flexible Hose should be connected to the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner before strapping to your body. 1. To connect the Flexible Hose (6) into the Hose Inlet (15), insert the threaded end of the Flexible Hose into the Hose Inlet and turn right until it locks into place (Fig. 1). To remove the Flexible Hose, unplug the Power Cord (9) and then turn the hose left. 2. To remove the Telescopic Tube (7) from the Flexible Hose, hold the Flexible Hose handle and pull the Telescopic Tube to separate. 3. See page 13 for instructions on inserting the Dust Bag correctly. 4. Step on the Floor-to-Carpet Selector (21) to adjust the height of the brushes. There are two different heights, one for floors and one for carpets. 5. To remove the Telescopic Tube from the Floor Head (22), simply pull the Telescopic Tube out from the Floor Head. 6. The Backpack Vacuum Cleaner can be adjusted to suit Left or Right-Handed users. Simply change the direction of the Canister Lid (1) so that the Hose Inlet is on the same side as the dominant hand when the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner is on (Fig. 2). Adjust the height of the brushes to suit hard surfaces or carpets. To vacuum carpets the selector on the left side should be vertical as seen in Fig. 3a. To vacuum hard surfaces the selector on the right side must be vertical as seen Fig. 3b. Dusting Brush The Dusting Brush features soft bristles that helps clean furniture, windowsills, embedded art and blinds (Fig. 4). Crevice Tool With its skinny shape and angled tip the Crevice Tool gets into tight spaces, corners, crevices, around radiators or vents and between sofa cushions (Fig. 5). Upholstery Tool The Upholstery Tool contains a wide head and unique surface that makes it an excellent tool for removing dust, dirt or unwanted pet hair off sofas, chairs, mattresses and cushions (Fig. 6). NOTE: This tool is not a grooming tool and should not be used on animals. WARNING: Please do not use Upholstery Tool on delicate or woven fabrics that may tear. Do not use the Upholstery Tool on wooden floors as this may cause mild scratching. Blower Attachments The Blower Attachments can be used to inflate air mattresses and other inflatable items (Fig. 7). There are 3 different sizes to fit different inflatable items. The Waist Band The Waist Band (5) has been designed to carry accessories by placing attachments into the loops. This manually adjusts the suction power through the hose by adjusting the suction regulator to the desired position between open and closed (Fig. 8). Fig. 8 Using the Blower Attachment The Blower Attachments (10) can be used to inflate air mattresses and other inflatable items. The Blower Attachment features air release holes that are designed to help relieve the air pressure to ensure the attachments does not blow off when in use. IMPORTANT: Take caution when using this function to blow up inflatable items. Turn the unit on and hold the Blower Attachment and air valve while the Vacuum Exhaust is pumping air into the inflatable. IMPORTANT: Do not use Blower Attachment function on fragile or delicate objects unless they are secured or held firmly in place as the power is quite strong and may cause damage. To use the Blower Attachment: 1. Lift up and unlock the Exhaust Grill (18) tab and click out the Exhaust Grill (Fig. 9). 2. Remove the Exhaust Grill and store in a safe and clean place. 3. To insert the Blower Port (8) into the exhaust outlet, align the lower tabs of the Blower Port with the slots of the exhaust outlet. Push on the top of the Blower Port and press until it snaps into place. 4. To attach the Flexible Hose (6) to the Blower Port, align the Flexible Hose and turn right until it locks. The Flexible Hose is now securely in place (Fig. 10). 5. Choose 1 of the 3 Blower Attachments (Fig. 7) that fit the item that needs inflating. Connect the attachment to the end of the Flexible Hose. 6. To detach the Flexible Hose turn left and pull out from Blower Port. Connect the Flexible Hose (6) and Metal Telescope Tube (7) if desired. Choose the correct accessory as explained on page 10. 2. Loosen the Shoulder Straps (4) on both sides and correctly position onto your shoulders, securing the straps into a comfortable position. 3. Fasten the Waist Band (5) around your waist so that the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner rests comfortably on your hips (Fig .11) CAUTION: If the Waist Band and both Shoulder Straps are not properly and securely in place, the unit could fall off your back causing damage or injury. 4. Plug the power plug into an electrical outlet. 5. Turn the unit ON/OFF by pressing the switch located near the base of the unit (Fig. 12). Ensure the Power Cord (9) is disconnected from the power outlet, unplug the Flexible Hose (6) from the Canister Lid (1) by rotating the Flexible Hose to the left and pulling down. 2. To open the Canister Lid, pull out the bottom of the Canister Lid Tabs (2) on each side of the unit, release from the Canister Lip Clip and lift the Canister Lid (Fig. 13). Flip the Canister Lid upside down and place your finger beneath the tabs on the Dust Bag holder and flip upwards to lift the Dust Bag (Fig. 14). 4. Holding the Dust Bag (20) in your hand, slide it carefully through the slots of the Dust Bag Holder and dispose of the Dust Bag (Fig. 14). 5. Insert a new Dust Bag and ensure the cardboard face of the new bag rests securely in the Dust Bag Cover guides (Fig. 14). 6. Flip the Dust Bag Holder over, pressing the tab of the Dust Bag Holder until it clicks and locks into place. 7. Remove the Shake-Out Bag from the Canister Lip and shake out any excess dirt in a large bin or appropriate area. Ensure the Shake-Out Bag is carefully re-inserted in place (Fig. 15). 8. Put the Canister Lid back on the unit with the Flexible Hose positioned on the right or left, as per your preference. 9. Lift the Canister Lid Tabs up, hook onto the Canister Lip Clip and click towards the body of the unit to lock into place. NOTE: There is no Dust Bag full indicator. Change the Dust Bag when the suction performace has decreased. When visiting the store, take one of the dust bags with you for reference. If you are having trouble finding extra dust bags, please contact our After Sales Support line for assistance. NOTE: Do not overfill or reuse the Dust Bag. Replace when the bag is full. NOTE: When replacing the Dust Bag, please do so in an outdoor or open area with sufficient ventilation. Remove the Shake-Out Bag (17) from the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner Canister (1). 2. While holding the handle at the bottom of the Shake-Out Bag, shake vigorously in an outdoor area over a garbage receptacle until there is no more dust. 3. Inspect the Shake-Out Bag regularly for tears or damage. If the Shake-Out Bag is damaged please contact our After Sales Support line. 4. Re-insert the Shake-Out Bag into the canister. NOTE: If required you are able to hand wash the Shake-Out Bag in lukewarm water. However it is essential you allow it to completely dry before reusing. Never insert it back into the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner if it is still wet. NOTE: If you wish to enquire about spare parts for your Stirling Backpack Vacuum Cleaner please contact the After Sales Support line on 1300 777 137. Cleaning the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner 1. Switch off and unplug the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner at the power outlet. 2. If necessary, remove any hair or large pieces of debris from the Dusting Brush (13) and Floor Brush. 3. If necessary wash the Attachments (see page 10) in warm water with mild detergent. Ensure Attachments are completely dry before use or storage. 4. Clean the exterior of the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner using a soft damp cloth and dry thoroughly. It is recommended to clean the HEPA FILTER (23) at least once every 6 months or when the suction of your Backpack Vacuum Cleaner begins to decrease. 2. Remove the Shake-Out Bag (17) from the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner Canister. The HEPA Filter is located underneath the Shake-Out Bag. 3. To remove the HEPA Filter, use your thumbs to press away the tab that is used to lock the HEPA Filter and lift with another finger to unlock the attachment. 4. Tap the HEPA Filter outside in a well ventilated area on a safe surface to remove any residual dust that has gathered on the HEPA Filter. 5. You can wash the HEPA Filter by running it under cold water and allowing the water to run out the dirt. 6. Let your HEPA filter dry naturally in a leaning position, until it is completely dry. Afterward, carefully place it back inside your Backpack Vacuum Cleaner and turn it on to test its functionality. IMPORTANT: Always ensure the HEPA Filter is completely dry before inserting it back into your Backpack Vacuum Cleaner. Storage · Before packing away the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner for storage, ensure it is clean and dry. · We recommend storing the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner in its original carton to protect it from dust, with all the parts and accessories. · Store the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner in a clean and dry place, out of children's reach. · Do not place heavy objects on top during storage. Contact your local authorities for advice on recycling facilities in your area. Please keep the original packaging carton and materials in a safe place. The suction performance of the Backpack Vacuum Cleaner is declining? Possible Cause · The Backpack Vacuum Cleaner is not plugged into the power outlet correctly. · The Dust Bag (20) is full. · The Dust Bag and/or HEPA Filter (23) are not correctly installed or assembled. · There may be a tear in the Dust Bag. · There may be a blockage in the Telescopic Tube (7), Flexible Hose (6), Floor Head (22) or the accessories (11,12,13). · The HEPA Filter (23) or Shake-Out Bag (17) are dirty. Solution · Check that the ON/OFF Power Switch (Fig .11) located at the base of the unit is switched on. · Remove the power plug (9) and then reinsert into the power outlet. · Replace the Dust Bag (20). · Ensure the Dust Bag and/ or HEPA Filter are correctly inserted. Please see page 13. · Replace with a new Dust Bag, and dispose of the damaged Dust Bag. · Visually inspect the Telescopic Tube, Flexible Hose, Floor Head and accessories for large items that may have been sucked in. Do not use sharp tools to remove blockages. · Clean the HEPA Filter or replace the Shake-Out Bag. For detailed instructions please see page 15 and 16.
