Get to know your AC.
- Remove front intake grille by gently pulling the bottom groove.
- Behind this grille, you will find your serial number, model number, and other important product information and cautions.
- On top of the unit behind the top bar, you will find important disposal and safety information.
- Power button Turn the AC on and off.
- Power indicator light Shows the AC is powered on (you can shut this light off by holding down Mode for 5 seconds).
- Wifi button Hold this down for 5 seconds to begin pairing with your app. The wifi indicator light will flash until you pair successfully.
- Clean filter button Hold this down for 5 seconds after cleaning or replacing your filter to reset the change filter indicator light.
- Mode button Use this to change the mode to cool, eco, or fan.
- Fan button Use this to change the fan speed to high (3), medium (2), low (1), or auto (A). Auto means the fan only runs when the AC is cooling (versus running continuously).
- Set temperature button Use this to adjust the temperature up or down.
- Temperature display
- This area will display the room temperature.
- When you adjust the temperature up or down using the temperature button, this area will then show the set temperature so you can choose your new desired temperature.
- Once you choose your new desired temperature, the display will flash this new set temperature twice before again displaying the room temperature.
- Fan display
- This display area will show the different fan speed options as you cycle through using the fan button. Once you find your desired fan speed, it will flash twice before again displaying the room temperature. The fan speeds are displayed as follows:
- High: 3
- Medium: 2
- Low: 1
- Auto: A
- Cool mode This mode helps keep your home cool, comfortable, and dehumidified. In this mode, you can choose any fan speed (low, medium, high, auto). The fan will run continuously in this mode (unless on auto fan speed). Use the temperature button to adjust to your desired set temperature.
- Eco (Energy Saver) mode
- The unit will turn on by default in this mode to ensure the unit runs efficiently and to help you save on your energy bill. In this mode, the compressor turns off when your desired temperature is reached. The fan will run periodically until the room temperature is above your desired temperature.
- At this point, the compressor will turn back on to help cool the room back down to your desired temperature. In this mode, you can choose any fan speed (low, medium, high, or auto). Use the temperature button to adjust to your desired set temperature.
- Fan mode
Use this mode to run the fan only. The compressor will not turn on. You can choose high, medium, or low fan speed. Auto fan does not work in this mode. The display will show the room temperature, and you cannot adjust the set temperature in this mode.
Other important operating notes:
- There is a 3 minute delayed start if the AC is turned on and off quickly in cool or eco mode. This helps protect the compressor from overheating or the circuit breaker from tripping. The fan will still run during this delay.
- When you select fan mode, the compressor will continue to run for approximately 2 minutes (in case you decide to cycle back through to cool or eco mode).
- When the unit is turned off in cool or eco mode, it will always return to eco mode when powered back on.
- If power is lost due to a power outage, the AC will restart in whatever mode it was last in before shutting off.
- The temperature can be set between 60 degrees Fahrenheit and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The AC will maintain your desired set temperature within approximately 2 degrees Fahrenheit in a well insulated room 375 square feet or smaller.
- Wifi indicator light To connect your unit to the Windmill app, hold down the wifi button for 5 seconds. It will continue to flash for 60 seconds. If it does not pair, it will stop flashing after 60 seconds. If it does pair, the wifi indicator light will stay lit. Note: this wifi indicator light will flash for 60 seconds when initially plugged in - it will stop after 60 seconds if you do not wish to pair with the app.
- Degree symbol & clean filter indicator The degree symbol will change from white to orange after 250 hours of operation. This means it is time to clean or change your filter. Once you clean or change your filter, hold down the filter button for 5 seconds until it beeps and the degree symbol turns from orange back to white.
- Eco mode operation
- Every time you power on your AC (including right out of the box), it will default to eco (energy saver) mode. This is the most efficient mode and helps save you money on your energy bill. If the temperature in your room is lower than the unit’s set temperature, the unit will not run right away (since it’s already below your target temp!). For example, if your room is 68 degrees and your unit is set to 70 degrees, in eco mode, nothing would happen. You can always change the mode to cool or fan if you want air to flow.
- Fading display Windmill was designed to hide in plain sight. The display will fade away after 60 seconds, so you don’t have bright LEDs ruining your vibe (or sleep). There is an indicator light in the power button that lets you know the unit is still running. Press any button to reactivate the display. NOTE: If you want your AC to run completely in the dark, you can shut off the indicator light by holding down the “mode” button on the unit for 5 seconds.
- Slide the back cover off
- Remove and properly dispose of the old battery
- Insert new battery (pay attention to the polarity to make sure it is the correct side)
- Slide back cover into place
- The remote may be damaged and not work properly if the sensor at the front is exposed to direct light.
- Remove the battery from the remote if you do not plan on using the AC for a while (this will prevent potential leakage)
- Do not place or store the remote in areas with extreme heat or humidity.
Cleaning & maintenance.
Check the air filter once every couple of weeks. Dirt, dust, and other particles can block the airflow. This isn’t great for the efficiency of the machine or your air! To clean the included antimicrobial filter:
- Remove the front intake grille. Place your hands in the bottom groove and pull out (it’s magnetic, so should be easy!)
- Remove the filter. Use the plastic grips near each hole as you pull out. Be careful not to snap off the plastic pegs where the filter rests.
- Wash the filter. Use warm water below 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly shake off excess water. Do not use soap to clean the filter.
- Return filter and front intake grille. Align the holes in the filter with the plastic pegs. When it is secure, insert the front intake grille’s magnets into their respective holes on the front bezel.
- You can clean the exterior parts of your AC with warm water and mild liquid dishwashing detergent. Use a soft wash cloth.
- Use a dryer part of the cloth to wipe down the display and buttons. Be careful not to get water or detergent near the display or buttons.
- Do not use harsh cleaning products.
- Remove the AC carefully from the window following the Installation Guide’s instructions.
- Store it in the original packaging or use a plastic cover or bag.
- Do not store the unit where it can be punctured or damaged.
- Do not store in a room with any open flame appliances (i.e. furnaces, gas water heaters, etc.).
- Do not store in a room with electrical heaters.
- Do not store if the unit is damaged. Fix the unit before storing.
Environmental impact.
Lower your environmental footprint and energy bill with these simple tips
- Clean your filter: A clean filter allows more air to flow through the AC, making it more energy efficient.
- Maximize air flow: For ACs, free flowing air is like food. For them to “eat” and operate as efficiently as possible, they need air to pass through without being blocked. Make sure there is nothing blocking the air flow around your Windmill AC, on the inside and outside of your home.
- Give your AC some shade: Your unit will be happier and work more efficiently if you place it in a window that doesn’t get a lot of sun.
- Insulate the window: Make sure there are no air gaps in your windows or walls, so cool air can’t escape (and warm air can’t get in).
- Do the little things: Run appliances that generate a lot of heat (washer, dryer, dishwasher, etc.) during cooler parts of the day and keep blinds closed (in your other windows) during the sunniest parts of the day.
Warranty.
- Your AC comes with a one year limited warranty.
- To review the warranty specifics and register your new AC, go to windmillair.com/support.
- Note: You’ll need to have your model number and serial number handy before registering your AC. Both numbers can be found by removing the front intake grille. They will be on a white sticker attached to the inside of the front bezel.
